Dridge Taroc deck
Influenced by medieval Morphlandic ritual cards, and by the Italian, French and German tarot decks, amateur occultist Alfred 'Al' Dridge (*1831 – †1903) developped an own card set in collaboration with illustrator William Clitorick (*1822 – †1891) in the late 1850s. Finally published in 1858, it spread quickly and became the new official extended deck for normal players as well as fortune-tellers and mentalists in Morphland.
Unlike the common playing cards, Dridge Taroc has six suits. Each suit has 14 cards: ten pip cards numbering from one (or Ace) to ten, and four face cards (Jack, Soldier, Queen, and King). In addition to these suits, called Minor Arcana, the Dridge Taroc has a separate 36-card trump group, called Major Arcana, and a single card known as the Black Swan (which played a special role in the medieval set). This deck is still popular throughout much of Morphland to play conventional card games, though sometimes only a subset of the 121 cards in the pack are used.
